Hola

Again we take our time this morning after a late wake up (daylight saving finished overnight so we also got a little more sleep than we first thought).

We drive the 5kms to the little village of Frigiliana and realise that the entire population of the local area has come to visit. The entire length of the road past the town (we can’t drive through the middle of town) is jam packed with cars parked wherever and however they can! So we continue cruising through looking for something past town but the road climbs up and still no parks. We get to a ‘mirador’ (which is a view point) and manage to stop and have a great view down over the town and the valley. But nowhere to turn around still, so we have to drive on until we find a side entrance that looks doable. After a delicate backing manoeuvre we are able to slowly swing back around and on to the right side of the road without any mad motor bike rider screaming around the corner ( these little challenges are more mentally tough for the navigator than the driver by the way). So we cruise back down but alas no parks to be found still, so we go on by but never mind there will be other Pueblo Blanco (ie white village) to visit.

We decide to drive another 5 km to Maro a small village near the Caves from yesterday. This also gives us a chance to stop at another mirador for the modern day Eagle Aqueduct that was built in 1879 and 1880 to carry water from Nerja town to the local sugar refinery in Maro. While it’s now closed the aqueduct continues to be used for local irrigation. The aqueduct is four stories high with a total of 37 horseshoe shaped archways, and topped with a mudejar-style spire, on top of which is a weather vane in the shape of a double-headed eagle, from which the aqueduct takes its name.

The village is lovely but looks for all the world like everyone is home having a siesta as there is no one around. After walking almost back to where were parked we find a small restaurant open with great views of the coast and we stop for a simple burger (so so) and omelette (pretty good).
