Ejica and then onto Cordoba

Hola

Having survived the night in the municipal carpark without incident we set out for Écija (eth-ee-ha) which is only 50 km down the road. When we get there we are able to park fairly close to Centro, so it’s only a 10 minute walk in. The Plaza de Espana (Écija style ) is a pleasant little square dominated by the City Hall under major renovation (€8,623,300.63 cost - yea they have costed to the last 63 cents 😳). Morning tea dispatched, after quite the search for a shop selling Coke surprisingly, we go to the Tourist Info on the square. They give us a good map showing the main sites, which are essentially 9 major churches (I know!!) and the Palace.

We have enough time to poke our head inside the church right across the square (impressive as always):

and then go to the Museo in the Palace where we have an hour before 1.30pm siesta shut (oh and by the way €2 for Seniors complete with audio guide 👍😁). Among other things there is a 2nd century Roman replica of a 5th century BC wounded Amazon warrior, some truly impressive Mosaics and some well preserved skeletons showing the difference in how Christian burials tend to be on your back and Muslim are on your side and also oriented towards Mecca. One of the skeletons is of a woman who has had her head chopped off! Also on display is a little gold plaque (all gold!) which they say is from the 5th century BC (how on earth do they work that out!)

We return to our van via a different route but don’t spot anything particularly amazing on the way, but we are able to find a Servo and we buy a baguette, and some cheese that has already gone mouldy in the sealed packet(?!?), so decide not to eat that. Lunch is in the lovely park in the edge of the river near where we park.

After that we head off to Camping La Campiña, that site which is a fair way outside Cordoba. This turns out to be quite a lovely small caravan park set among the olive groves all around. Dinner was chicken and capsicum kebabs with pumpkin and zucchini on the side.

Over and out for today - tomorrow is Cordoba.
