Hola

Unusually a day with not a lot to tell. It’s cold again this morning up here in the mountains ( we have gone from complaining about the heat to whinging about the cold in the space of a week it seems). But the chill in the air makes the final decision- we will set off for Jaen this morning (or to be exact we drive out of the campground at 11.59am - hey it’s still morning).

Problemo though, unless we want to stay in the train station carpark there is nowhere to stay in Jaen. We cast the net a little wider and discover there is a new Municipal facility (paid one with showers, toilets, electricity etc) in Sabiote about 30 kms east of Jaen - the reviews are good, so off we go.

On the way, we pull into a Servo with a tricky little turnoff and Bob swings into the roundabout only to discover that wasn’t the first exit of the roundabout but the turn to go back to Granada - it’s 5km before we can execute a turn and go back and try again. Fortunately we get it right this time, which quells the whining and swearing from the drivers seat.

Interestingly, while we are there a young chap approaches us asking if we are going to Malaga - he is hitchhiking, and he has made it to here just now from Cordoba, but now trying to get the next ride. As he says, you don’t see a lot of hitchhiking here and he is not having much luck picking up a ride, as people are a bit reluctant. He is still trying when we leave 20 minutes later and we wish him luck.

We have our usual stop off at the Supermercado for supplies along the way, and as usual it takes 2 hours to read all the labels and workout what you are buying. We arrive at our destination via a small GPS induced wrong turn around the Castillo (“I can save you 20 metres if you just go down this laneway wide enough for 2 bicycles) but quickly correct that.

And we are pleasantly surprised, this looks basic but good, up on a ridge looking out over sheep paddocks to the valley and mountains beyond. At €13 per night incl. electricity and good wifi it’s a bargain also, as confirmed by the Dutch couple in the next van along (“we booked for 2 and extended to 4 nights”).

Lovely quiet campsite overlooking olive fields:

Chicken with pan fried ‘roast’ pumpkin and veggies tonight was pretty good also.
