Travel day to Toledo

Hola

The weather has turned bad and there are rain and storms every to the north east and west. So perhaps we might need to change our plans a bit as we don’t want to be stuck in small town nowhere for 2 days with nowhere to go except from the bed to the lounge (those Captains chairs).

But first, Bob is up early to deal with the toilet cassette which is full, and would have been done last night if not for the bumper repair job. So he is out in the wind and rain, in the semi darkness (cursing again he tells me), tired from a bad sleep, and manages to knock the toilet screw cap down the chemical toilet drain - and it’s gone forever!! This does nothing to improve his mood. When I wake up a bit later, he is googling Thetford dealers in Spain (ie where to buy another toilet screw cap). We dodgy a cap with a ziplock bag and a rubber band to (hopefully) tide us over until next week when we get to Madrid where it appears that there are a couple of dealers.

We set off north, deciding to make a decision on where we are going as we assess the weather along the way. In the end we decide that we will have to miss Campo de Criptana (which is in Cuidad Real) and El Toboso (another province outside Toledo) which are both in Don Quixote territory, as the storm is crossing over from the coast through Portugal and heading our way. So we head straight for Toledo.

Along the way we do pass Consuegra where there is a famous line of old windmills marching up the hill to the fortress (possibly the very windmills that Don was tilting at. While we don’t risk driving right up near them we get a good view for a couple of kms, and stop for a couple of pics that don’t do them justice but are in as a matter of record. We get some heavier rain as we get closer to Toledo, and that damn near blows the bread van off the road so Bob has to be extra vigilant the last few kms.

We book into Camping El Greco just on the outskirts of town, and the same place we stayed in 2009 (oh so long ago, but Bob says he recognises it still looks the same and we are parked in a similar spot to where we were last time). We have a night in to get a good nights sleep, so we can go in to Toledo tomorrow to see whether we remember anything else!!
