Toledo - day 2
16.11.2025 - 16.11.2025
First order of business - find the Quiosco Periodico (ie little newspaper stall) for the Financial Times newspaper! We got off the bus outside the town walls, and walked 500 metres and found the Booth but it’s closed (Sunday day of rest here? Other cities have been open on Sunday).
Turn around and back to the old entry gate from Muslim times and then end up walking up into town, as that easier and quicker than finding the elevators.
A few photos of around town:

We bought a ticket for the little touristy ‘train’ that will take us around town, and with 45 mins to spare before our 1.00pm departure, had our morning tea.
The ‘train’ goes around the outside of the old town walls and you get quite good views of the city including a 10 minute stop at a Mirador for the best shots of the Alcázar, Catedral, and assorted other religious landmarks.

After the train ride, we set off for the Jewish Quarter, visited an old Synagogue with seemingly a mosque as it’s basis or similar design themes.

Continuing our walk we check out the old Monastery, but decide not to go in, although there is an interesting story behind all the chains affixed to the outside walls - apparently they are a symbol of the liberation of Christian captives during the 15th Century War of Granada against the Muslims (all the history is pretty connected around here).
Chains hanging down on the outside of the wall of the Monastery:
We head back towards the Centre and find the Church of the Jesuits (but we did see this in 2009 ) so just cruise by, and peek inside to refresh the memory.
By happenstance (so Bob says) we arrive at an intersection with the Buenaventura Abdia (Abbey) craft beer bar and restaurant. So it’s 4pm and it’s time for very late lunch/very early dinner- in we go. We both order ribs done on the Josper grill with a side of grilled sweet potato and Bob orders a Pint of Buenaventura Pale Ale, which he says is quite good, and becomes even better when the waitress gives us a little card that’s says the next pint is free, so he follows with a IPA, "all’s quite good". And the ribs are really good, and I get stuck into them and have to force myself to let Bob finish them, so I don’t eat the same amount as him! With have a little time to kill before the bus, so what shall we do? I know - a wee gelato, and then we definitely, absolutely, don’t need anything else tonight.
The bar/restaurant is in a beautiful old stone building - with the strangest toilets we have ever seen (each individual toilet is inside a fibreglass pod thingy):
Adious for now
